Ah, the Long Beach Grand Prix. This race keeps me going, something to look forward to every year, and one of the only races I don’t have to travel for. As always, IMSA and IndyCar headlined the weekend, plus supporting guests from GT America, HMSA, and Stadium Super Trucks.
On the IMSA side, it was the first non-endurance round of the season. Porsche Penske dominated the first two rounds, which were 24 and 12 hours respectively, but the big question was whether they could maintain that pace in a sprint round. The answer would be yes, as the No. 7 car of Nasr and Tandy dominated the race with the No. 6 in its stride. On the GTD side, the fan favorite Rexy by AO racing made a guest appearance in GTD with Porsche royalty Laurens Vanthoor and the up and coming Johnny Edgar at the wheel. This car, of course, would be a favorite for the victory, but they’d have to fight off the ever robust Vasser Sullivan Lexus duo and the dominant No. 57 Winward racing AMG. The adorable dino made easy work of these competitors, however, and took the victory by a landslide.
