The Promised Land
Let me start off by sayng i will DIE for porsche like i am a diehard porsche stan. Since I was a young lad, I’ve heard of this mythical Porsche mecca known as Rennsport Reunion, a mecca of all things Porsche road and race descending upon Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA. Unfortunately, as soon as i got into going to car events some microscopic asshole decided to ruin everything for everyone, and since Rennsport Reunion is held every 4 years like an election, that bumped it to 5 years. But alas I’m a patient boy, and it was worth the wait.
Rennsport 7 was insane lemme tell you that. Several groups split between category and era, from 962s to 901s to Devin specials and 919s. I was overwhelmed. They say never meet your heroes, but i met many that weekend (including actual humans like Jacky Ickx, Mark Webber and a very awkward run-in with George Follmer in the bathroom) needless to say I’m glad I met my heroes and I want to meet many more.

Walking thru the paddock was like being at a red carpet reception, getting jumpscared by insane cars. It was a who’s who of Porsche royalty. Daytona winners, Sebring winners, Le Mans winners… oh that car won Bathurst.. that car won the 1962 French Grand Prix. Overwhelming is an understatement.

The slowest of the groups was the Gmund Cup, a group of early Porsche racing cars. 356s, Specials, 718s and more.

The Weissach Cup was one to watch. This group was full of 935s and other fire breathing silhouette beasts, including the Preston Henn owned Daytona winning 935.

The Werks Reunion was the most expensive of the classes, 917s. Need i say more? Oh and my GOAT Jeff Zwart was racing!

The Stuttgart cup was the highlight for me. A dozen or so 962s interrupted by an RS Spyder, first time I’ve seen one since seeing them racing in period (I was like 5)
